About Me

Mike in Scotland

I am a Research Software Engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in the US. I work in the Computational Earth Sciences group, in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division, as well as the Climate Change Science Institute. Here, I develop software to help understand how the Earth system is changing and to understand the fundamental dynamics and natural variability of the Earth system, primarily focused on the sea ice and atmosphere components.

My science/research interests range from sea ice - atmosphere and stratosphere - troposphere interactions to tropospheric mid-latitude blocking and the effects of climate change on these.

Previously I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter working on the EuroClim project, with a group of several academics and researchers. My research there was primarily concentrated on the dynamical interaction between the stratosphere and troposphere, and the atmosphere and Arctic sea ice.
